How to Become a Better Putter

It’s easy to forget that a 300 yard drive and a 2 foot put have the exact same weighting on your scorecard. Eliminating three putts and maximizing “feel” when putting is imperative when it comes to trying to break 100. There’s no use in having a consistent drive and laser focused wedge game if you’re constantly missing your putts. Putting drills like the round the clock drill and

 

  1. Round the Hole Drill

 

Place several balls a set distance (e.g. 3 to 5 feet) away from the hole at different positions like the points on a clock. Then, work your way around the hole hitting the putts at the one o’clock, two o’clock, three o’clock position and so forth. This drill helps improve feel and build confidence, knowing that you can consistently hole putts from short distances, thus helping to reduce the chances of three putts.

 

 

 

  1. Putting through Tees

 

Another commonly seen drill on the PGA Tour, placing two tees at both ends of the putter and hitting putts between them ensures that your path stays true and you are not mis hitting the ball at the point of impact.
